Science took center stage as Epic Public School celebrated Acharya P.C. Ray’s birth anniversary, inspiring future scientists with his remarkable legacy.
Epic Public School pre-celebrated the birth anniversary of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray on 1st August. This pioneering scientist and his works inspired many of the young minds that day.
A presentation was shown in the program which ladened the students with the values and quest for science of this great figure.
Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray was not only a scientist, but also an educator and industrialist. This great scientist had done many ground-breaking works throughout his career. His most famous scientific achievement came in 1896 with the discovery of the stable compound mercurous nitrite, earning him the nickname “Master of Nitrites”. He founded the Bengal Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works Ltd in 1901. He also mentored two of India’s great scientists, Satyendra Nath Bose and Meghnad Saha, who did amazing work just like their mentor throughout their career.
History rightfully remembers him as the ‘Father of Indian Chemistry’ because he did more than just finding India’s first pharmaceutical company; he cultivated an entire ecosystem of indigenous research. Beyond the laboratory, he was a revolutionary, who contributed to science as well as the independence movement of the country.
Yet, whether he was laying the groundwork for science education across Bengal or living a life while donating his entire salary back to Calcutta University, all of this points back to his most enduring identity. He was always, first and foremost, the Acharya who believed that teaching science was the ultimate tool for nation-building. He was that dreamer who dreamt of an independent country who wanted a revolution through the field of science and whose hard work made it a reality today.
Many students were inspired that day and PC Ray’s life story had ignited a spirit in them which gave rise to a lot of future scientists that day.
