Sayantani Das, a fourth-grade student, discusses the causes and effects of global warming, a phenomenon exacerbated by greenhouse gas emissions leading to unprecedented climate change.
“Ah! The heat is killing me.”
This is an expression we hear quite often these days. But have you ever wondered why it that the temperature is so high these days? Well besides many other factors, one of the major reasons for such a climatic change is ‘Global Warming’.
Global Warming means the rise in global temperatures due to an increase in the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In common words, we use climate change to describe Global Warming.
Cause of Global Warming
Global Warming is caused by deforestation, air pollution, etc. Air pollution is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, the smoke from vehicles and factories, etc. releases greenhouse gases which are harmful to the environment. Some examples of greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane, CFC, etc. These pollutants absorb sunlight and solar radiation and stay in the atmosphere for years and even centuries which prevents the radiation and heat from escaping. Thus, the planet gets warmer and warmer.
Effects of Global Warming
Due to the extreme rise in temperature glaciers are melting resulting in rising sea levels and thus causing climate change.
How to prevent Global Warming
One of the important steps to prevent or reduce global warming is to work on measures to reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Additionally, we have to stop the burning of firecrackers as they cause air pollution. Moreover, a major step that can be taken is to ensure that the smoke from industries and vehicles is filtered before being released into the air.
I put an end to this article as of now but only with a promise to make a better tomorrow.
