Haunted Mansion – A Knock at Midnight – Grandma tales

Arica Mandal, a Class 5 student of Epic Public School, presents a spine-chilling horror story about a group of adventurous college friends who find themselves trapped in a haunted mansion. Strange whispers, eerie apparitions, and an unexpected visitor turn their thrilling trip into a terrifying nightmare. Will they escape before it’s too late?

My grandma is a great storyteller. In fact if you all remember, I shared one of her stories earlier titled ‘Sunita Mashi and her curse’. So here I am today with one more of her stories. And today I share yet another horror story of a Haunted Mansion with you.

Mickey, Julie, Ron, and Ruby are best of friends. They were students of a college in North Bengal. Unlike their other friends they were fond of adventures.  They used to go for picnics and outings, they also used to go for camping and tours every year during their summer holidays.

That year after their exams were over and summer holidays were declared, they decided to go out again. But there was one slight problem, they were confused where to go.

“Let’s go on a picnic,” Mickey suggested. 

“No, it’s too boring every time,” said Julie. 

“So where do we go this time?” Ron asked. 

Ruby who was quite for all this while gave it a thought and suggested, “Why not go for an adventure this time?”

This was a fascinating idea for all and everyone agreed to the suggestion.

“Ah! I know a place where we could go,” said Ron. 

“Where?”

“The haunted mansion”.

Everyone was shocked at this suggestion and reacted “What, seriously are you mad? You want to go to the Haunted Mansion?” they asked. All except Julie. She was fascinated with the idea and she agreed to Ron’s suggestion. She said “That sounds like fun. We haven’t been to a Haunted Mansion earlier.”
Soon Mickey also agreed. But Ruby was still in a dilemma, but since everyone was of the same opinion there was nothing much to do, so she agreed as well.

Finally a day was fixed for them to go.

It was bright day when they started for their adventure. After driving for about an hour they reached a undeveloped road where their car got stuck into the mud. Ron and Mickey were quick to respond and tried pushing the car, but failed to move the car even a bit.

Ruby and Julie came out from the car, and started to walk around the place. Suddenly Ruby saw a big house that looked like a palace. It seemed to be an old house. ‘Was this the Haunted Mansion?’ she wondered. But then it started to rain. Ruby called the others and showed the house. Everyone rushed and reached the house forgetting to check if this was the infamous Haunted Mansion.

As they entered they found the house was covered in dust. As they walked further they found pieces of broken glass. It was then Ron saw something dark in front. He was shocked and scared, but when he looked again he found it was nothing but a staircase. They decided to go up.

Julie on the other hand wanted to click some pictures. She was a good photographer you see. In fact her carrier ambition is to become a famous photographer when she grows up.

Ruby called her – “Julie, what are you doing? Why are you not coming?”

“You carry on, I will join in a while.”

Everyone went upstairs and Julie started clicking photographs. But then, to her surprise she heard sound, she listened again it was a group of people talking. Slowly she went to the direction of the sound. As she neared she heard someone say, “Everyone stop talking. I can hear someone coming. Stop talking.”
Julie realised the danger and ran towards the stairs. As she climbed up she found her friends walking. She joined them. They were discussing about where they should stay for night. Soon they found three bedrooms and decided to stay there for the night. But the problem was there was only three rooms and they were four.

Ruby came up with a solution, she said. “Let’s do one thing I and Julie will stay in one room and you both stay in those two rooms differently.”

They agreed. The mansion was dark inside but in the rooms lights were there. Mickey was feeling hungry, it was then they realised that they forgot to bring the food from the car.

It was then a girl entered Mickey’s room out of the blue. She was wearing a strange looking dress and was carrying some food with her. She offered it to Micky. Mickey was shocked but as he was hungry he started to eat without a word. 

Meanwhile in the other room Ruby was taking a shower, while Julie was arranging the bed. As she turned she found the same girl enter their room. She shouted. Hearing her Ruby rushed out from the bathroom. At this the girl vanished in thin air.

When Ruby came out and asked what happened Julie couldn’t answer. Meanwhile Ron who was alone in the other room started behaving strange.
