Discover amazing events from 15th July, including the first steamboat, India’s space achievement, and the true story of real-life Avengers who sought justice after World War II!
Dear Students,
15th July 2025, Shubhanshu Shukla, creates history returning from the International Space Station (ISS) after 18 days.
Many of you have seen the blockbuster movie “The Avengers”, where superheroes like Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America save the world. But do you know there was once a real group called “The Avengers” in history? Their story is amazing—but before that, let’s take a quick journey through some cool events that happened on 15th July!
The World’s First Steamboat!
Imagine travelling in a boat powered by steam instead of oars or sails! That’s what happened on 15th July 1783, when the Pyroscaphe, the first steamboat, made its first trip on the River Saône in France. It was built by Claude-François-Dorothée, marquis de Jouffroy d’Abbans. This invention changed the way people travelled by water forever!

Horse Power on the Race Track!
Before cars and bikes, horses were the fastest ride! On 15th July 1815, the first horse race was held at the English race track in Cheltenham on Nottingham Hill. Can you imagine the cheering crowds and the excitement of those racing horses?

The Name ‘Alzheimer’s’ Was Born!
Today, we know Alzheimer’s disease as a serious memory illness. On 15th July 1910, Emil Kraepelin used the term “Alzheimer’s disease” in his famous medical book to honour the doctor Alois Alzheimer, who first discovered it.

Mumbai’s First Bus Ride!
On 15th July 1926, Mumbai (then Bombay) saw its first motor bus service. The buses ran between Afghan Church and Crawford Market. Imagine the thrill of those first passengers riding through the busy streets in a big motor bus!

India’s Big Space Leap!
Fast forward to 15th July 2011, India launched the GSAT-12 communication satellite into space using a PSLV rocket from Sriharikota. This helped improve communication across the country. How cool is that?

Now, The Story of the Real Avengers!
After World War II ended, a group of young Jewish men and women called “Nakam”, meaning “Vengeance” in Hebrew, came together. They were Holocaust survivors, people who had faced terrible tragedies during the war. Led by a poet and fighter named Abba Kovner, they wanted to make sure the world understood one thing: never again should Jewish blood be shed without justice.
Their plan was shocking—they wanted to poison German water supplies and bread meant for German prisoners of war. They even got water system maps, poison, and secretly entered bakeries! Their mission was dangerous and daring, but their full plan did not succeed.
Most of these Avengers later returned to Israel, and for many years, they never spoke about what they had tried to do. Historians only discovered their story much later. These real Avengers didn’t have superpowers like Iron Man or Hulk—but they had courage, determination, and an unbreakable will.

Isn’t history full of surprises?
Which story did you find the most exciting—the first steamboat, the first horse race, India’s satellite, or the real-life Avengers?
Until next time, stay curious and keep exploring!
