Dear Students,
Did you know there is a man in Madhya Pradesh who built a real house that looks just like the Taj Mahal? Intrigued? Hold on to that thought, because before we peek into this wonder, let’s hop into our Time Machine and explore some fascinating stories from 18th June!
🌟 The Fearless Rani Lakshmibai
On this day, way back in 1858, the courageous Queen of Jhansi, Rani Lakshmibai, laid down her life fighting bravely against the British troops in Gwalior. She was just about your age when she learnt to ride horses and wield swords — and when the time came, she led her soldiers into battle during the famous Revolt of 1857. Even today, her bravery inspires millions!

👶 How the Baby Carriage was Born
Have you ever sat in a pram or perambulator as a baby? Fun fact — the word perambulator comes from the Latin perambulare, which means ‘to walk through’. On 18th June 1889, an African-American inventor named W. H. Richardson patented the first modern baby carriage (Patent No. 405599). Before that, people carried babies tied on their back or front in a cloth — a style that is still popular in many cultures!

🇮🇳 The Fight for Goa’s Freedom
You may know that India became independent in 1947, but did you know Goa wasn’t free then? On 18th June 1946, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia and other brave Goan leaders began a movement to end Portuguese rule. Unlike the rest of India, Goa was ruled by the Portuguese for 451 years! It finally became part of India on 19th December 1961, thanks to a mission called Operation Vijay.

🧮 The Marvel Called Shakuntala Devi
Can you multiply big numbers in your head? Well, on 18th June 1980, the amazing Shakuntala Devi, famously known as the Human Computer, stunned the world by multiplying two 13-digit numbers in just 28 seconds — without any calculator! She made India proud with her extraordinary mind. Here is a video from that day.
