Discover amazing facts for kids about 19th June! Learn about French kings and capitals, India’s satellite APPLE, ancient postal services, and the tasty history of Jalebi. Fun and educational!
Dear Students,
Did you know that the delicious Jalebi (or Jilapi), which makes our mouths water during festivals, actually has a very old cousin from ancient Rome? Curious? Hold that thought — but first, let’s jump into some exciting things that happened on 19th June in history!
🏰 Kings and Capitals
Long, long ago — in the year 936 — a young prince named Louis IV, known as Louis of Overseas, was crowned King of France. But here’s the twist: his capital city was not the Paris we all know today! Back then, it was Soissons, and after becoming king, Louis moved the capital to Laon, a city in northern France.
Surprising, isn’t it? And here’s a mind-blowing fact: France has changed its capital city 22 times!
Now guess how many capitals India has had throughout history. Ready? Take a deep breath… 49 capitals since 460 BCE! That’s a lot of royal moving around!

✉️ The First Postmen
These days, we chat with friends on WhatsApp or send an email in seconds. But imagine being a king or queen in the olden days — how did they send messages? They wrote letters on scrolls and trusted messengers to carry them on foot or horseback, travelling for days or even months!
On 19th June 1464, King Louis XI of France did something amazing — he started an official postal service for the people of France! But wait — do you know who invented postal services first? It was the Achaemenid Empire of Persia (modern-day Iran) way back in the 6th century BCE. Ancient people were pretty smart, weren’t they?

🚀 India’s Space Adventure
Zooming ahead to 19th June 1981, India made a proud leap into space! On this day, the APPLE satellite (Ariane Passenger Payload Experiment) became India’s first satellite to be stabilised on three axes — meaning it stayed perfectly balanced in space. It was launched by the European Space Agency’s Ariane rocket from French Guiana. Thanks to APPLE, India moved one step closer to the amazing space technology we have today!

🍯 Now, the Juicy Part: Jalebi!
As promised, here’s the tasty tale! Long ago, around 27 BCE, the Romans traded with India and brought along many things — including yummy food ideas! One of their sweet treats was called Encytum — a crispy disc made from wheat and cheese, fried in oil or fat, and dipped in honey.
Sounds familiar? Over hundreds of years, food ideas travelled, changed, and mixed with Indian flavours — and so Encytum slowly turned into our beloved Jalebi! How exactly that happened is still a delicious mystery waiting to be solved by food historians someday. Here is a video for you.
✨ So, what did we learn today?
- Kings moved capitals like we change houses!
- Ancient people invented postal services without smartphones!
- India’s space journey has been sky-high since 1981!
- And, the next time you bite into a hot, juicy Jalebi — remember, you’re tasting a sweet piece of history!
Stay curious and keep munching on knowledge (and maybe a Jalebi too)!
Happy Learning!
