Dear Students,
You’ve heard tales of kings and queens, brave warriors and clever spies. But today’s story is like no other. Imagine a war… where humans actually fought birds — and lost! But before this feathered fiasco, let’s explore the exciting things that happened on the 9th of July in history!
📈 9th July, 1875 – The Birth of the Bombay Stock Exchange
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was officially established on 9th July 1875 and is one of the oldest stock exchanges in the world. But the history goes back much earlier sometime in the 1850s when brokers would gather under a banyan tree for the same.
Today, it’s a big, buzzing place full of numbers, screens, and deals — like a financial rollercoaster!

🎾 9th July, 1877 – The First-Ever Wimbledon Tennis Tournament!
A long, long time ago — before Serena Williams or Roger Federer ever picked up a racket — the first official Wimbledon tennis tournament began on the beautiful lawns of the All England Club in London. It was the very first Grand Slam event ever held.
Imagine playing in crisp white clothes under the summer sun, surrounded by gentlemen in top hats! That’s how tennis history began.
❤️ 9th July, 1893 – First-Ever Successful Open-Heart Surgery!
On this day in 1893, an American doctor named Dr. Daniel Hale Williams made medical history!
He bravely performed the first open-heart surgery in the United States — and that too without penicillin or blood transfusions, which weren’t even discovered yet!
His patient, James Cornish, survived the operation — and Dr. Williams became a hero in the world of medicine.

🐦 The Great Emu War: When Humans Lost to Birds!
Now, as promised, here’s a story that’ll make you laugh till your tummy hurts — and it’s 100% true.
It happened in Australia in 1932, during a time called the Great Depression. To survive, farmers planted lots of wheat. But guess who also loved wheat?
Emus!
Over 20,000 giant emu birds marched across the land like feathery soldiers, gobbling up the crops. The farmers were so desperate that they asked the Ministry of Defence for help. Imagine that — calling the army to fight birds!
🎖️ Operation: Emu
Soldiers arrived with big guns and serious faces. But the emus were faster than expected. They ran in zig-zags, dodging bullets like ninja birds.
At first, a few were defeated. But soon, the army realised… they were losing! The emus were too many, too quick, and too clever.
Eventually, the government gave up, and the emus won the war!
Australia had declared war on birds… and lost. Till this day, it’s remembered as the Great Emu War — a real event that sounds like a comedy movie.
🧠 What Can We Learn?
- Even small creatures can be mighty in numbers!
- Not every problem needs a military solution — sometimes clever thinking is better than big weapons.
- And finally — history can be hilarious when birds are involved!
That’s all for today, young explorers!
Stay curious, keep smiling, and remember — no matter how serious things may seem, history is full of surprises… and sometimes, emus.
