Reflections on the true meaning of Independence Day by Biswajit Jha, Director of Epic Public School – a reminder that freedom is a responsibility we must nourish daily through integrity, values, and patriotism beyond symbolism.
My good friend and the director of Epic Public School, Biswajit Jha, shared some important and fascinating insights on the occasion of Independence Day, which I would like to share with you today.
He draws attention to those who feel Independence Day is just a welcome holiday – a chance to sleep in, enjoy a leisurely breakfast, perhaps even indulge in a carefree outing. But he asks all of us an important question: is that all it should be? Is it simply a day for merriment, or should it be a reminder to renew our pledge to protect the very freedom we so often take for granted?
Freedom is not something that remains intact forever. It is something we need to nourish with care and guard with integrity. The important point is how we preserve our hard-won independence in the years to come – and perhaps more importantly, what role we, as citizens, will play in that preservation.
India is not just a mass of land; it is the sum of its people. Our conduct, our choices, our daily acts of honesty, compassion, and courage form the bedrock of our country’s strength. To protect our freedom, we must first protect our values.
Biswajit highlights that patriotism is not confined to waving a flag once a year or singing the national anthem before forgetting it all the next morning. True patriotism is what we practice in our daily lives. Do we follow a path of integrity, act fairly with each other, and show the courage to stand up for what is right?
Independence Day should stir something in our hearts – a mixture of pride, gratitude, and responsibility. For it is not merely a commemoration of the past, but a call to action for the present and the future.
Because freedom, once lost, is not easily regained.
I share with you Biswajit Jha’s useful insights.
