A thrilling and heartwarming story by Adrish Saha of Class IV, Epic Public School, about a young boy named Jank who dreams of climbing the mysterious Mount Kailash. Guided by faith and devotion to Lord Shiva, Jank sets out on a magical journey that leads him to a divine encounter.
In the mighty Himalayas, there is a strange mountain called Mount Kailash. It is not the tallest mountain — Mount Everest is taller — but Everest has been climbed by many people. Mount Kailash, however, is different.
No one has ever reached its top.
Some say the mountain is protected. Some say it is sacred. Some even say time stands still there.
Our story begins in Cooch Behar, West Bengal.
A young boy named Jank lived there with his family. He was just 9 years old, but he had a big dream — to climb to the top of Mount Kailash.
One evening, as he looked at the picture of Mount Kailash on his wall, he said softly,
“One day, I will reach the top… no matter what.”
Jank was a devotee of Lord Shiva. He prayed every day with full heart. But when he turned 10 and a half, his father passed away suddenly.
He held his mother’s hand and cried,
“After Baba’s death, I feel sick in my heart.”
His mother hugged him tight.
“Pray to Lord Shiva, Jank. He will guide you.”
Years passed. When Jank turned 15, something inside him changed.
He stood in front of his father’s photo and whispered,
“I’m going, Baba. I will climb Mount Kailash. For you. For me. For Lord Shiva.”
The Journey Begins
He packed a small bag — some food, warm clothes, and a photo of Lord Shiva.
He walked through forests, crossed rivers, and climbed steep cliffs. The air grew thin. The wind howled. But he never gave up.
One evening, as he reached near the base of Mount Kailash, a snowstorm started.
“Oh no!” Jank shouted, as snow hit his face like needles.
He found a small cave and sat inside, shivering.
He folded his hands and prayed,
“Om Namah Shivaya… Please help me, Lord Shiva…”
Suddenly, a roaring sound filled the air.
A massive avalanche came crashing down the mountain.
Jank’s eyes widened.
“I’m going to die…” he whispered.
He shut his eyes and prayed harder.
And then… everything went dark.
A Strange Awakening
When Jank opened his eyes, he was not cold anymore. The storm had stopped. There was no snow around him.
He looked around, confused.
Then he saw someone standing before him.
A tall figure. Glowing. Wearing a tiger skin. Holding a trident. A snake around his neck.
Jank’s mouth dropped open.
“Is… is this a dream?”
The man smiled gently.
“No, my child. I am Lord Shiva.”
Jank’s eyes filled with tears.
“You heard me… you saved me…”
Lord Shiva nodded.
“Your devotion brought you here. You are brave, and your heart is pure.”
Jank folded his hands and bowed.
“Can I go to the top of Kailash now?”
Lord Shiva looked at him kindly.
“You already have, Jank. No one climbs Kailash with legs. Only the heart can reach its top.”
Jank smiled. He lit a small lamp and performed a puja there, right in front of Lord Shiva.
And so, Jank became the first person in history to reach the top of Mount Kailash — not by force, but by faith.
The Legend Lives On
They say, years later, when people asked Jank how he did it, he would smile and say,
“Climb with your heart, not your feet. And believe in the divine.”
