Epic Public School celebrates a proud moment as Parnika Dutta wins the All India Writing Contest organised by Burlington English
There’s something magical about the first time you balance a cycle — the wind touches your face as you paddle forward, your father holding you, and that unforgettable moment when he lets go. Those wobbly rides teach us more than just cycling; they uplift us with values that stay with us forever.
It was this very sentiment that Burlington English sought to capture when they organised a pan-India writing contest on the occasion of World Bicycle Day and World Environment Day as a heartfelt tribute to fathers. The theme invited students to write a blog about their memories of learning to cycle with their father or father figure and to reflect on the life lessons they picked up—especially those connected to sustainability.
The response was overwhelming, with over seven hundred students from across the country, spanning Grades 3 to 8, rising to the challenge. Amongst them were the bright young minds of Epic Public School, who regularly develop their writing in specially organised creative writing sessions.
The contest concluded on 25th June 2025, and the results were declared on 15th July. It was a moment of immense pride for the entire Epic family when Parnika Dutta of Class 7 emerged as one of the national winners.
Speaking to Epic Words with a smile, Parnika said,
“I would like to thank my teachers and parents for their constant guidance and support.”
Mr Biswajit Jha, Director of Epic Public School, could hardly contain his joy.
“I truly appreciate the relentless efforts of our creative writing advisor, Somashis Gupta, whose guidance has been invaluable,” he added, “a big thank you to Bidisha Chakraborty, who ensured every detail was managed with meticulous care, and last but certainly not least, Dr Sanjukta Saha, our principal, whose vision and encouragement made this possible. A good principal can change lives, and this achievement at a national level is proof of her leadership.”
Dr Saha herself shared, “At Epic, we prepare students not just for exams but for life. Our aim is to help them grow into global citizens who will one day be ‘Epic’ not only in Cooch Behar but across the world.”
It is worth noting that only two students from West Bengal secured victory in this competition—Aradhya Khara from The Summit School, Kolkata, and, of course, our very own star, Parnika Dutta from Epic Public School, Cooch Behar.
Once again, hearty congratulations to Parnika—you’ve made us proud!
Epic Words will soon publish all the stories written for this competition by students of Epic Public School, so stay tuned for a delightful read.
