Parnika Dutta, a student of class VII of Epic Public School and a fellow traveller herself, shares her up-close experience of her friends’ extraordinary performance at the Macmillan Budding Travellers Contest.
Epic Public School created history on 1st November, 2025, when three Epicians bagged gold medals standing in front of a cheering crowd. They started off their journey from Cooch Behar, landed in Delhi and came back home with three gold medals and one special prize. Their lovely performances stole the heart of judges at the British Council.
On 1st November, a prestigious meeting took place in Delhi with the qualifiers of the Macmillan Budding Traveller contest in association with the British Council. Out of 13 entries, three young minds of Epic Public School, namely Purba Nandi, Shreejit Jha and Anupam Roy, got a chance to showcase their talent. At the meeting, Shreejit also showcased his hobby by playing the flute, and when it was his turn to be interviewed, he answered fluently and expressed himself at his peak.
Next, a confident girl came up to the judges to let them interview her, who was none other than Purba. She was self-assured and smooth throughout her eye-catching presentation and completed it beautifully.
After that, Anupam was interviewed by the judges through a video call. As he was unavailable there at the meeting, the Macmillan Contest organisers had interviewed him online, but despite this, he expressed his talent confidently in front of everyone. All of them presented themselves professionally and earned the awards through their hard work.
The whole time, they were guided by their mentor teacher, who is none other than Somashis Gupta, who had always been a great help. He expressed it with a proud heart, saying. “Once we started the project by Macmillan, I always noticed that the students were exceptionally talented. With a short span of time we created the videos of the students with their concepts, and the results came in yesterday. Out of 13, we won 3 golds and one special award, which itself shows that the students are extremely talented, and under the guidance of Mr Jha and Dr Saha, the school is excelling in its efforts and making the complete development of a child, which is extremely important in the coming days.”
They were also accompanied by their principal, Dr Sanjukta Saha, who said, “It was a great feeling! Big achievement for the school. Huge congratulations to the students, and thanks to Somashis sir and Bidisha miss for making them ready for such a big platform by guiding them. Above all, it is the students’ hard work which has brought this success at the national level. Lastly, being the principal of the school, I am proud of my students.”
Their director, Biswajit Jha, was proud and said, “It was beyond our imagination! Unfortunately, these creative and innovative things are not included in the academic syllabus, but these are important things which are required in our daily as well as professional life, and that is why our school supports them. We started these initiatives 4 years back, and now we are getting the results with the success of the students on the national platform. The way Purba, Shreejit and Anupam spoke in front of the big people in the British Council Library was really awesome. I really congratulate them and hope that many of our students will get success in the coming days.”
They got supported by Bidisha Chakraborty too, who expressed herself, saying, “Heartiest congratulations to Shreejit, Anupam and Purba on their fantastic achievement. They’ve worked so hard for this, and it’s awesome to see it pay off. We all are so happy and proud, and we hope they will continue to achieve greater things in life.” The other teachers of the school were also proud of their achievement.
