Debarshi Nath, a student of fifth grade of Epic Public School, Wins Title at Inter-School Chess Competition.
EPIC PUBLIC SCHOOL participated in an Inter-School Chess Competition, organised by the Sara Coochbehar Daba Sangstha and affiliated with the Sara Bangla Daba Sangstha, concluded on November 5th, 2025, at the St. Mary’s School premises. The event witnessed fierce competition across all three categories.
The star category was Category A, i.e., the Class III-V division, where our students put up a dominating performance. Debarshi Nath, a student of 5th grade, clinched the coveted Champion’s Title in his category after a masterful display of strategic play.
Dominating the Junior Board Debarshi Nath and his schoolmate Abhinandan Roy led the Category A challenge from the front. Both were head-to-head, maintaining a leading position until the highly competitive 4th round. At the end, Debarshi’s perfectly calculated moves and his calm and composed attitude helped him to cross the ribbon. The win is a significant achievement and a testament to the promising chess talent emerging from the school’s junior ranks.
While the junior section celebrated a victory, the participants in the senior and middle categories put up spirited fights that unfortunately fell just short of the title.
In Category B (Class VI-VIII), Korak Maitra and Shreejit Jha demonstrated commendable skill and strategic depth throughout the tournament. Despite playing well in a nail-biting match, they were unable to secure the gold.
Similarly, Papon Mitra, who represented the school in the Category C (Class IX-XII) division, played a strong and competitive game but narrowly missed out on the top spots.
Rakesh Ghosh, spokesperson from Epic Public School, praised all the participants, stating, “We are immensely proud of the fighting spirit and dedication shown by all five students. Debarshi’s victory is a huge inspiration, and also the experience gained by Korak, Shreejit, and Papon at this high-level tournament is invaluable for their development.” The competition, hosted by St Mary’s School, Cooch Behar, further established the region’s commitment to promote chess and provide a strong platform for the young players.
