Discover amazing stories for kids in this article about the historical events of 14th June — from the secrets behind cartoon voices to mysterious aliens on Enceladus, Bunsen burners, Gandhi’s bravery, and an island where time stands still!
Dear Young Explorers,
Guess what day it is today? It’s the 14th of June — a day full of amazing stories from cartoons to aliens, and a bit of hidden magic in between!
Let’s start with a tiny secret: in just 6 more days, on 21st June, the sun will decide to take a nap a little earlier each day — that means the days will start becoming shorter! And do you know when it wakes up fully and days start getting longer again? On 25th December — the day we celebrate Christmas, or as some lovingly call it, Baradin!
Who Doesn’t Love Cartoons?
Hands up if you love cartoons! Yes, I see all hands up — even mine! Who doesn’t love watching Nonte Phonte, Batulda, Chhota Bheem, Motu Patlu, Doraemon, Shinchan, or the all-time favourite Tom and Jerry?
But have you ever wondered — how does Doraemon’s funny voice come out of that blue robot cat? Or how does Batulda’s mighty laugh echo so perfectly?
Well, hop into my time machine for a moment — back to 1941. At Disney Studios, artists didn’t have fancy computers — instead, they scraped glass, blew into throat tubes, and even used a ‘talk-box’ to make voices and sounds for the adorable elephant Dumbo and the talking train Casey Jr. Isn’t that marvellous?
Next time you watch a cartoon, try making silly sound effects with a cup and a straw — you might discover your hidden voice-artist talent! Here is a video..
The Fire in the Lab — Bunsen Burner
Remember your science lab? Full of shiny instruments and glass tubes? One of your favourite tools — the Bunsen burner — was born on 14th June 1847! A clever scientist named Robert Bunsen invented this little flame-maker which helps you do your awesome experiments safely and neatly.
So, next time you light that blue flame, whisper a “Thank you, Bunsen Sir!”

Heroes and History
Do you know who made sure Indians got their rights in faraway South Africa? It was none other than Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the man you know as the Father of our Nation. On 14th June 1913, the South African government made unfair rules against Asians, but Gandhi-ji stood up bravely and led a peaceful fight — just like a real superhero, but without a cape!
Here is a picture of Gandhi during those times when he used to wear suites and tie.

When Paris Fell Silent
Here’s a piece of World War mystery: On 14th June 1940, German soldiers marched into Paris, the city of lights and croissants. It was a dark day for the beautiful city, but brave people fought back, and peace was restored later. History is full of courage, isn’t it?

The Island Where Clocks Don’t Matter
Close your eyes and imagine this: an island where the sun never sets for two whole months! It’s true — it’s called Sommarøy Island in Norway. On 14th June 2019, the people there decided, “No more clocks!” and made it the world’s first ‘time-free zone’. You can swim, eat ice-cream, and play football at midnight — and nobody will tell you, “Time for bed!” How cool is that?

Aliens on Enceladus?
Now, the biggest secret of all — ready? On 14th June 2023, scientists found something mind-blowing on Enceladus, one of Saturn’s mysterious moons: phosphates, the last missing ingredient for life. They already knew it had carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and sulphur — now phosphate too! This means tiny alien microbes might be swimming in the icy ocean under its surface.
So, next time you look up at the night sky, wink at Saturn — who knows, a tiny alien might wink back!

Keep Exploring!
So, my dear young detectives, from silly cartoon voices to possible alien life, the 14th of June has hidden wonders everywhere. Keep your eyes wide open, ask questions, and never stop exploring — because the next big discovery might just come from you!
Until next time — keep imagining, keep learning, and keep smiling!
