Hello, young explorers!
Did you know that the date 20th June has witnessed some truly thrilling moments in history? Let’s hop on our time machine and find out what happened on this day, many, many years ago!
🏰 Brave Siraj Ud Daulah – The Last Free Nawab of Bengal!
Travel back to the year 1756. Meet Siraj Ud Daulah, the young and daring Nawab (ruler) of Bengal. He wanted to protect his kingdom from the greedy British East India Company. On 20th June, Siraj attacked the British in Calcutta and captured their Fort William.
He locked up the British soldiers in a small dark room called a dungeon. Sadly, many prisoners died because there was hardly any air to breathe — this terrible event is known in history as the Black Hole of Calcutta.
Even though Siraj was brave, he was betrayed by some of his own people. A year later, he lost the famous Battle of Plassey, which changed the history of India forever. But we still remember Siraj for his courage to stand up against a mighty empire!

✈️ V.S. Srinivasa Sastri – The Voice for Equality!
Next, let’s fast-forward to 20th June 1921. Imagine a calm but powerful man named V.S. Srinivasa Sastri standing up for Indians at a big meeting in London called the Imperial Conference.
At that time, Indians living in South Africa and other British colonies were treated very unfairly. Sastri demanded that Indians should be treated equally and given full citizenship rights, just like everyone else. His brave words inspired many people to fight for justice and equality all over the world!

💣 Operation Bellicose – The First Shuttle Bombing Raid!
Now, zoom ahead to 20th June 1943, during the fiery days of World War II. The British Royal Air Force planned something very clever, called Operation Bellicose.
Huge Lancaster bombers flew over Germany to destroy a big factory where airships called Zeppelins were made. But wait — they didn’t fly back home straight away! Instead, they flew all the way to an airbase in Algeria, in North Africa, to refuel and get ready for the next target. From there, they bombed a place in Italy too!
This was the first-ever shuttle bombing raid — meaning the planes didn’t return to base after the first attack but went on to strike another place. Pretty smart and daring, right?
