An exciting journey through time for young readers! Discover how 1st June marks the birth anniversary of Satyendranath Tagore, the discovery of the Magnetic North Pole, the first Indian to conquer it, the end of the East India Company, and the maiden run of India’s first luxury train, the Deccan Queen.
Dear Students,
Welcome to the first day of June 2025! We’re halfway through the year already — and what a day to celebrate, filled with awesome achievements, historic firsts, and amazing Indian heroes! Buckle up, because we’re about to take a thrilling time-travel adventure called “From Discovery to Deccan”!
🌟 Let’s Start With a Tagore – But Not the One You Think!
We all know Rabindranath Tagore, the brilliant poet who gave us our national anthem “Jana Gana Mana”. But did you know he had an equally inspiring elder brother?
Say hello to Satyendranath Tagore – born on 1st June, 1842. He wasn’t just Rabindranath’s big brother – he was a trailblazer! He became the first Indian to join the Indian Civil Service (ICS) way back in 1863, during British rule – a time when such things were nearly impossible for Indians! 😲
But wait, there’s more! Satyendranath was also a poet, writer, composer, linguist and a social reformer. Can you imagine having that many talents? And here’s the coolest part – before “Jana Gana Mana,” he wrote the first National Anthem:
🎵 “Mile Sabe Bharat Santan, Ektan Gāo Gaan”
Which means: “Let all the children of India come together and sing the song of unity!”
Let’s give a big cheer to Satyendranath Tagore on his birth anniversary today! 🎉

🧭 Off to the Arctic!
On 1st June, 1831, a British explorer named James Clark Ross discovered the Magnetic North Pole. It happened during his Arctic expedition with his uncle John Ross. Imagine being in the freezing cold, surrounded by snow and polar bears, and planting your flag on one of Earth’s most mysterious spots! ❄️
Now, do you know who was the first Indian to ski to the North Pole? 🏔️
It’s Ajeet Bajaj, born in 1965. Not only did he conquer the North Pole, he completed the polar trilogy – skiing to the North Pole, South Pole, and across the Greenland Icecap! 🏅 That’s a real-life superhero if you ask me!
👑 Goodbye East India Company!
Another big thing happened on 1st June, 1874 – the mighty East India Company was officially dissolved. That means it stopped ruling over India, and the Queen of England took direct control. While British rule wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, it did bring in some changes – like one of our favourite things ever…
🚆 The Marvel Called the Deccan Queen!
Yes, we’re talking TRAINS!
Before Vande Bharat and Rajdhani, before Palace on Wheels, there was… the Deccan Queen! On 1st June, 1930, this stunning blue-and-silver beauty made her first journey from Mumbai to Pune. It was the first ever luxury train in India – and it’s still running today, stronger than ever. 🚄💙
Just imagine – smooth leather seats, big windows, and the thrill of speeding across the Deccan Plateau in style, way back in 1930!

🎈 So what does 1st June really mean?
It’s a day of firsts – first Indian civil servant, first national anthem, first Arctic discovery, first polar hero, and first luxury train. It shows us that courage, curiosity, and creativity can make any day historic – even an ordinary 1st of June!
So dear students, let this day remind you to explore, discover, create and be proud of our past – because you are the future history-makers! 🌍✨
