Prianka Tiwari, English teacher, shares a report on the chess competition held on July 20, 2024, for students from classes 1 to 8 in collaboration with Cooch Behar Chess Academy.
Epic Public School organised a chess competition on its premises on the day of the international chess competition. Students from classes 1 to 8 were enthusiastic to be a part of the competition. We had the privilege of having Joy Ashit Kumar Mitra and Dr. Aniruddha Barman as the judges of the competition. The competition was organised in collaboration with Cooch Behar Chess Academy. More than 100 children took part in the same on 20th July ‘2024. The excitement of the children was at its own peak on the day of the competition. The competition was organised so as to help the children develop an interest in indoor games.
Chess is not an ordinary game but a blessing to those who have been in touch with it. It helps improve cognitive function, memory, attention span, as well as brain function. It helps to boost confidence and helps them learn strategic planning, logic, and analysis.
In this era of digitalisation, when one can be seen enjoying games in online mode, it becomes the responsibility of parents to help their children learn to sit together with their peers and spend some time instead of just concentrating on handsets.
“On the day of the chess competition, we had the honour of having the judges who helped the children learn the tactics of the game. It will help children feel motivated and develop in them a spirit of sportsmanship. They will be capable of building self-confidence in them. This game will also help them build their concentration level,” said the principal of the school, Dr. Sanjukta Saha.
