Dear Students,
Did you know that 15th June has many events throughout history — from ancient civilisations to Bollywood blockbusters? Let’s go on yet another time-travel adventure together!
🌞 A Shadow from the Past!
Long, long ago — around 4000 BCE — there was a mighty civilisation called Mesopotamia. It lay between two great rivers: the Tigris and the Euphrates (in present-day Iraq). The people there were brilliant: they invented writing, built grand cities, and studied the skies.
On 15th June 763 BCE, the Assyrians recorded a solar eclipse — the darkening of the sun by the moon! This event became an important clue for historians to fix the dates of Mesopotamian kings and battles.

⚔️ A Brave King of India
Fast forward to 15th June 1033: King Suhaldev of Shravasti, in present-day Uttar Pradesh, defeated and killed Ghazi Saiyyad Salar Masud, the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni. Ghazni was a powerful ruler who invaded India seventeen times!

⚔️ A Hero in Spain
Meanwhile, far away in Spain, on 15th June 1094, a legendary warrior called Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, better known as El Cid, captured the city of Valencia from the Moors. His victory was so famous that he’s still a national hero in Spain!

🇩🇰 The Flag that Fell from the Sky
Do you know which country has the oldest national flag still in use? It’s Denmark! Legend says that on 15th June 1219, during a battle in Estonia, the Danish flag — called the Dannebrog — fell from the sky and inspired the Danish army to win. Do you who designed The Indian National Flag? It was Pingali Venkayya.

🗺️ The Confused Explorer
Explorers had no Google Maps in olden days! On 15th June 1643, the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman returned to Batavia (now Jakarta) after discovering Tasmania and New Zealand — but he had no idea that he had returned home. It presumed his own homeland to be a new island. It was after a while he could recognize his mother land. Oops!

🩸 A Brave Boy and a Sheep
On 15th June 1667, a French doctor named Jean-Baptiste Denys performed the first fully documented blood transfusion — by putting a bit of sheep’s blood into a sick 15-year-old boy. Amazingly, the boy survived!
💵 Paper Money Travels the World
On 15th June 1762, Austria used paper currency for the first time. But the idea was older: China used paper money (called jiaozi) way back in the 11th century! In India, paper notes came in 1861 under Earl Canning. Before that, people used Hundis to transfer money.

🎬 Lagaan: Cricket and Freedom!
Now, for something closer to home — and more fun! Have you seen Lagaan? This beloved Bollywood film starring Aamir Khan was released on 15th June 2001. It showed how villagers used cricket to fight British injustice. It even got nominated for an Oscar!
