Chirag shares this short moral story about two brothers, Raj and Vir, from the village of Kuthala. While one chooses discipline and education, the other follows laziness and play.
Once upon a time, there was a village called Kuthala where two brothers lived. The elder brother’s name was Vir, and the younger was called Raj.
Raj was very intelligent and loved to study. As a result, he always secured the top position in his class. But his elder brother, Vir, was just the opposite—he was not good at studies at all.
One day, Raj woke up early in the morning. He took a bath and started studying. Later, Vir too woke up, but unlike Raj, he went straight to the ground near their house and began playing cricket with his friends.
After a while, when their father woke up, he found Raj studying. He felt very happy and went to his son.
“Why are you studying so early in the morning?” he asked.
“I like studying, Father. Moreover, I need to finish my assignment given by my teacher,” replied Raj.
Just then, their mother entered the room and informed their father about Vir.
“Vir has gone to play with his friends,” she said.
The happiness on their father’s face faded.
Vir returned after a while and went straight to his mother.
“Mother, I’m hungry. Can you serve me breakfast?”
“Look at your brother,” she scolded. “He woke up early and started studying. But you’re always playing. Go take a bath first before I serve you breakfast.”
After Vir had his breakfast, their mother said, “Now go and study like your brother.”
“Oh Mother, I have the whole day to study. I want to play now. I’ll study at night,” said Vir as he rushed out to join his friends.
Days passed like this, and finally, the day came when the results were declared. As expected, Raj stood first, but Vir had failed again.
Their parents were quite worried and tried their best to change Vir. But the same pattern continued for several years.
Around twenty years later, Raj got a job at a prestigious university called Global National University. He fulfilled his dream of buying a big bungalow, purchased a car, and lived happily with his wife and children.
But Vir could never find a job for himself. He was very sad and finally realised why his parents had always urged him to study. But by then, it was too late.
Ultimately, he became a rickshaw driver. He bought a small house and started living there.
