A haunted mansion, a broken car, and a ticking clock. Follow Ananya and Krishna as they try to survive a night of cursed mirrors and supernatural horrors in this spine-tingling tale.
The monsoon holidays had just started when Ananya, a super brave 15-year-old girl, went on a road trip with her family. Her 12-year-old little brother, Krishna, was buzzing with excitement the whole way, asking questions, nonstop and staring out the car window. Their parents laughed as they drove along a lonely forest road.
Ananya had always been the brave one. Even when Krishna made fun of her for believing in old warnings and ghost stories, she still felt like every place had its own price, and some things were better left alone. Krishna, on the other hand, didn’t believe in any of that weird stuff.
By evening, the rain came down hard. The sky went dark, and lightning flashed across the clouds. Then, all of a sudden, the car engine died.
“We’ll have to find shelter,” their father said.
Far away, through the rain, there was an old mansion sitting on top of a hill. Its broken windows looked like dark eyes staring at them. Thick vines covered the walls, and the iron gate creaked open by itself.
“We’ll stay only until the rain stops,” their mother whispered.
The second they stepped inside, the huge wooden door slammed shut behind them.
BANG!
Krishna jumped and grabbed Ananya’s hand.
“Di… I don’t like this place.”
Ananya stood tall, even though her heart was pounding.
“It’s okay. We’ll find another way out.”
The mansion was covered in dust. Old paintings hung crooked on the walls, but something felt off…
The eyes in the paintings were moving.
Everywhere they walked, the painted people seemed to be watching them.
Then suddenly…
Tap… Tap… Tap…
Footsteps echoed from the floor above.
But there was no one there.
Then they heard a little girl laughing.
“Hehehe…”
The laughter bounced through every hallway.
Krishna held onto his sister even tighter.
“I want to go home.”
Their father tried opening the front door.
It wouldn’t budge.
Not even a little.
Then every light in the mansion flickered on by itself.
One by one…
The family walked into a long hallway.
At the end was a dusty mirror.
Ananya looked into it…
And screamed.
The mirror didn’t show her family.
Instead…
It showed four pale figures standing behind her.
She spun around.
No one.
When she looked back…
The figures in the mirror smiled.
A freezing wind rushed through the hallway.
The mirror cracked on its own.
Then, all at once, every clock in the mansion started ringing.
DONG… DONG… DONG…
Twelve times.
The walls began whispering.
“Leave… before midnight…”
Their mother spotted an old diary lying on a table.
It belonged to a family that had lived there more than a hundred years ago.
The last page said:
“Anyone who enters after sunset becomes part of the house forever.”
Krishna frowned and shook his head.
“This is just some old story. There can’t be a real price to a house.”
But Ananya read the warning carefully. She believed it.
As the clock struck 11:45 PM, doors started opening and closing on their own.
The temperature dropped so low that they could see their own breath.
Krishna suddenly froze.
“Di…”
“What is it?”
“Someone’s standing behind you.”
Ananya slowly turned.
A woman in a torn white dress stood at the end of the hallway.
Her face was hidden under long black hair.
She slowly raised one hand…
And pointed upstairs.
Without making a sound.
Their father whispered,
“We’re leaving. Now.”
But every hallway had changed.
The staircase was gone.
The windows were gone.
It was like the mansion was alive.
Then Krishna heard someone calling his name.
“Krishna…”
It sounded exactly like his mother.
He started walking toward the voice.
Ananya grabbed him just in time.
“That’s not Mom!”
Out of the darkness stepped another woman…
Who looked exactly like their mother.
She smiled.
But her smile stretched wider and wider until it reached both ears.
Her eyes turned completely black.
Then she whispered,
“You should have let him come with me.”
The lights went out.
Total darkness.
Only the sound of breathing filled the air.
Then came scratching.
Slowly…
Closer…
Closer…
Until something icy touched Ananya’s shoulder.
She turned around with her flashlight.
Nothing.
Then Krishna pointed up with shaking hands.
Ananya lifted the flashlight.
A creature with twisted limbs was crawling across the ceiling, staring at them with glowing white eyes.
Then it dropped.
The family ran as fast as they could.
Every room they entered led back to the same hallway.
The mansion wouldn’t let them escape.
Finally, Ananya remembered the whisper:
“Leave before midnight.”
She looked at the grandfather clock.
11:59 PM.
“There!” she shouted.
A small wooden door had appeared under the staircase.
The family rushed toward it.
The creature screamed behind them.
Its footsteps shook the whole mansion.
Ananya pushed Krishna through first.
Their parents followed.
Just as the clock struck midnight…
DONG!
Ananya jumped through the doorway.
The door slammed shut behind them.
Silence.
They found themselves outside in the rain.
The mansion was gone.
Only an empty field was left.
Relieved, they hurried back to their car and drove away before sunrise.
Years later, Ananya and Krishna came back to the same forest to uncover the mystery behind the place. By then, Ananya was 29 years old and Krishna was 26.
The old mansion was gone.
But in the middle of the empty field stood a single broken mirror.
As they looked into it…
They saw themselves smiling.
Neither of them was smiling in real life.
Then, from inside the mirror, a voice whispered—
“You escaped once… but you’re still ours.”
The mirror cracked.
And somewhere in the empty forest…
A little girl laughed.
