India is a country of festivals, and one of them is Rakha Bandhan. It is a celebration in which a sister ties a decorative thread (Rakhi) on her brother’s wrist, symbolising her love and prayers for his well-being, while he pledges to protect her from harm.
At Epic School, as in every year, the Raksha Bandhan celebration was organised at the BSF camps in and around Cooch Behar, where students tied Rakhis to BSF personnel.
Bidisha Chakraborty, one of the teachers who accompanied the students, told Epic Words, “It was a thrilling experience for both the students and us, as we could show our gratitude to the defence personnel who serve our country.”
In addition, a pre Raksha Bandhan celebration was held at Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya in Pundibari, where students celebrated Rakhi with the university’s students and teachers.
The school also organised an inter-class Rakhi-making competition, where students showcased their creativity by designing beautiful Rakhis.
Prarona Karmakar, one of the students who participated in the Rakhi-making competition, said, “It was a great experience where we could explore our creativity.”
Parnika Dutta, another student, shared, “It was a thrilling experience, as all of us joined the creative fun and shared our talents in making Rakhis.”
Therefore Rakhi teaches us that even the simplest threads can carry the strongest bonds. The celebrations not only strengthened the bonds of love and respect but also instilled in the students a deep sense of patriotism and gratitude.
