An adventure story where Sherlock, a poor young man, finds a treasure map. Will Sherlock be able to get the treasure? Read the story to find out.
Once upon a time, there was a man named Sherlock. He lived in a village and had a pet dog named Max. The man was about 22 years old. He was very poor and did not have the money to study at a college.
One day, he found 100 dollars on the road. He picked it up, bought some pens, and started selling them. He priced each pen at $10, and after selling all 20, he earned $200. With the money, he bought some food for himself and his dog.
The next day, he again found 500 dollars. He was very happy, and at the end of the day, both he and Max enjoyed a nice meal. Surprisingly, on the following day too, he found $150. This time, he thought he should start saving the money.
Within a few weeks, he had already saved around $5000–$6000. He decided to buy more pens and sell them. He bought pens worth $4000 and saved the rest. In this way, days passed, and after a few months, he opened a stationery store and started earning a good amount of money.
Over time, the store gained popularity and soon became the most well-known stationery shop in the entire city.
One day, he counted all of his money. It was $150,000, and he was overjoyed at his success. He bought a large bungalow and even built a fine kennel for Max. After all expenses, he was left with $35,000.
One day, Sherlock and Max went for a walk in the park. He sat on a swing while Max ran and played around. Suddenly, Max came up to him with a paper in his mouth.
“What have you got here, Max?” he asked, taking the paper from him.
“Max, look—it’s a treasure map!” he was delighted.
“Woof! Woof!” Max barked, realising his master was happy. He wanted to search for the treasure, but it was on an island deep inside a forest. “How will we go there, Max?” Sherlock was disappointed.
He then decided to buy a house near the ocean. It was a great trip from Washington to Hawaii, but he was left with almost no money, having spent all his savings on the house. He was worried.
One morning, while trying to find a way to overcome his poverty, he met a man who approached him and asked, “Do you know about the rich man who lives here?”
Sherlock replied, “No, I’m afraid I don’t.”
“Well, his name is Martin,” the man, Robert, informed him. “As a matter of fact, Martin is looking for someone who can solve a puzzle.”
Sherlock’s eyes lit up. “Is there any reward?”
“Oh yes! Of course. Anyone who solves the puzzle will be employed as Martin’s special advisor and will earn a handsome salary of $50,000.”
“I would love to try once. Where does he live?” Sherlock asked eagerly.
Robert gave him the address, and he rushed to Martin’s mansion. When he arrived, he joined the others who had come to compete.
After waiting for three long hours, it was finally his turn. He looked at the puzzle and solved it almost immediately. Everyone was shocked. Martin, impressed, asked, “So many people tried and failed, but you solved it in no time. How did you do it?”
Sherlock smiled and replied, “I used my intelligence.”
“You are indeed intelligent. Would you be my special advisor? The salary is $50,000.”
And thus, Sherlock became Martin’s advisor.
Within five to six months, Sherlock was wealthy again. He had saved enough to build his own ship. After a few months, the ship was complete, and Sherlock began his voyage with Max.
“We’ll explore the world, Max. We’ll go on many adventures,” he said when they reached the middle of the sea.
“Woof! Woof!”
After many days, they finally saw the island. “See, Max! At last, we’ve reached the island.”
“Woof! Woof! Woooo!” Max barked happily.
Once ashore in a dinghy, they began exploring the island. They went deeper and deeper into the forest but found nothing. Sherlock, tired and disappointed, sat on a tree trunk and looked at his map. It was then that he noticed a small ‘X’ mark.
“We need to find this spot, Max,” he said. After some searching, they found it. They discovered a shovel nearby, and Sherlock started digging. Soon, he hit something. Brushing away the sand, he found a box, but it was locked.
“The key must be on the island somewhere, Max. Let’s look for it.”
A while later, Sherlock noticed Max barking furiously. “Woof! Woof! Woooo!” Sherlock wondered why. Suddenly, Max tore off his leash and dropped it in front of Sherlock. Sherlock noticed a key hanging from it. He picked it up, tried it on the box, and to his delight, it opened. Inside, there was only a letter.
It read: “If you want the real treasure, come to this location.”
Sherlock and Max rushed to the place mentioned. To their surprise, they found Robert waiting for them.
“If you want the treasure, hand over Max to me,” Robert demanded.
Sherlock was shocked. Just then, Martin appeared. “Ha ha ha… it was our plan to trap you,” he sneered, locking Sherlock and Max inside a tiny room.
But Sherlock was strong. He kicked the door hard and broke it. Robert and Martin were caught off guard. Max leapt at Robert, biting him and knocking him to the ground.
Sherlock and Max ran as fast as they could until they reached a police station. They told the officers everything. The police immediately arrested Robert and Martin.
As for Sherlock and Max—well, they returned to the little house and finally discovered the real treasure.
