A heartfelt tribute to Satyajit Ray on his birth anniversary, celebrating his timeless films, literary works, and global impact on Indian cinema and culture.
Satyajit Ray. One of India’s most renowned and legendary film makers, screenwriters, authors, and graphic designers. Today, that is 2nd of May, I am publishing this article on this very magazine as a tribute to one of India’s legendary people, Satyajit Ray.
For now, let us travel back to the past. Considered one of the greatest directors of the 20th century, Satyajit Ray born in Calcutta (present day Kolkata), he directed around 36 films, including the acclaimed Apu Trilogy, which consists of the famous ‘Pather Panchali‘, ‘Aparajito’, and ‘Apur Sansar’. The films were characterized by profound humanism and realism.
Born on 2nd of May 1921, he was awarded the Honorary Oscar in 1992. Not only that but he was also awarded India’s highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna.

Anyways, coming back to the present, let me share the fact that why Satyajit Ray is one of my favorites. I love the fact that he portrays authentic Indian life, using natural locations, and the way he captures the rural life of India.
I just love the way he has such versatile artistry and masterful storytelling!
Two films directed by him which I like very much include, Pather Panchali and Charulata.
Now, you may ask why I like them, well, these two masterpieces took our Indian culture to a whole other level! Guess where? To the global stage!
Some of my personal favorites include, Sonar Kella, Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne and Hirok Rajar Deshe.
Besides, even after his death(April 23 1992), he has left plenty for us to admire, among them are the series’ of Feluda and Professor Shonku, once again, two of my favorites.
Children love Satyajit Ray for his iconic ability to blend engaging adventure, mystery and relatable child characters, as seen in the Sonar Kella and many others…
In the very end, I express my heartfelt gratitude to one of India’s legends, and one of my favorite authors, directors and film makers. Thank You Satyajit Ray for leaving behind so many beautiful masterpieces in the heart of bengal. As bengalis, we are proud of you, may you always be remembered an appreciated…..
