Distraction is a reflective poem by Anupam Roy of class 9 on the addictive pull of smartphone, capturing the struggle between fleeting pleasure, lost time, and the promise of starting anew.
No matter how hard I try,
In the end, that 6.5 × 3.1-inch monster pulls me back again.
It feels like an endless loop sometimes—
I dream of being the main character,
Yet I end up as just an NPC.
Even I know how dangerous it is;
It has the power to ruin my life.
Yet, for those tiny moments of pleasure,
My mind and eyes surrender without a fight.
At times, I pick it up to do my homework,
But within minutes, I’m lost in endless reels.
Sometimes it helps me get rid of my tensions,
But mostly it is the one that creates those tensions.
Every night before I sleep, I think of all I could have done.
But that cruel, restless monster
Chains me through my brightest hours.
And just before I drift away. One thought echoes in my mind:
“I’ll start again tomorrow”—
A promise I know I’ll leave behind.
