A heartfelt poem by Prarona Karmakar of class IX about the bitter sweet emotions of December—the memories, silent goodbyes, and the longing to hold onto moments as time moves forward into a new year.
Oh December! Can’t you just stay forever?
Can’t you just not let the next year come,
for I will grow a year older, a class higher and a level upper in life.
Can’t you just not let those memories of the whole year depart from me?
How will I accept that,
the people who stayed with me the whole year, now have to leave!
Can’t you just make them stay?!
People say December is a month of unsaid goodbyes!
Oh Dear! Can’t you just not let me face those goodbyes?
And as the clock hits 12 on 31st night and I walk down my memory lane,
seeing through the pain and happiness I have caused throughout the year.
It makes me a little emotional.
Oh December! Can’t you just let those moments stay with me forever?
And on 31st right at 11:59 p.m,
Why do we have to smile and say goodbye to a year we wanted to stay with us forever?
Oh December! Can’t you just stay forever?
Can’t you not let the next year come?
