Epic Public School always longs for innovative approaches in every field. The theatre workshop held during the summer vacation break was not an exception.
The three-day workshop was mentored by a renowned stage director Shri Kalyanmoy Das. Students from the high school campus had the privilege of unleashing their potential in dramatic aptitude under his guidance.
On the first day of the workshop, the pupils were bestowed with the minutes of theatre by the mentor. The pupils learned the different phases of acting, like intonation, Speaking, creativity, and enacting.
The happenings of the first day of the workshop lured in the students the desire to grasp acting skills in every possible way. With the same enthusiasm, the workshop of the second day commenced. The Epicians were given certain roles to play where they didn’t disappoint the mentor. Seeing the knack of the pupils Shri Kalyanmoy Das suggested they perform a theatre play entitled ‘Mobile Mania’. The theme and incidents were narrated to the students and as such they exhibited their skills.
The play began with the appearance of two friends named Ritika Saha calling her friend Purba Nandi ( both of them happen to be an Epician of sixth standard) and asking her to visit a nearby restaurant in order to have some leisure time after the completion of their exams. On getting a negative response after seeking permission from her reel life mother(Parnika Dutta, an Epician of 6th standard) and reel life father (Anupam Roy, an epician of standard VIIth), the daughter happens to leave the house to attend to her friend’s call.
One of the major causes of road accidents nowadays was depicted in the second scene where the girl was shown crossing the road attending the call and was hit by an overspeeding vehicle. The crowd on the street takes her to the nearby hospital where she is attended by a doctor namely Shreejit Jha (an Epician of sixth standard). Hearing the news of the accident from a friend the parents rush to the hospital and bring back their daughter home safely thus explaining to her the adverse effects of the handset and prohibiting her from using it any further. Many other students of the school took an active part in the event especially the students of classes V to VIII
The whole act was presented by the Epicians in an enthralling manner. The parents, guardians, and teachers were awestruck at seeing their kids perform live in front of the stage. Every act described its own story in the most unique way.
The mentor on the last day seemed pessimistic as it was the last day of his interaction with the active minds. He is hoping to conduct many such workshops on the school premises said the director of the theatre Shri Kalyanmoy Das. He rewarded the students with his benediction. The director of the school Mr. Biswajit Jha remarked that such stage shows can be a part of the curriculum on the day of language celebrations. On seeing the performance of the students, the principal of the school ” Dr. Sanjukta Saha expressed her keen intrigue to witness many such performances under the direction of Shri Kalyanmoy Das. The students also showed their utter eagerness to participate in the upcoming theatre events of the school. The program ended by felicitating the mentor and handing him over a memento. The students, on the other hand, were appreciated for reflecting their extraordinary display of flair and were given a certificate at the end for their genuine efforts.
