USA Cruise Past Paraguay 4-1
The United States made a flying start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay in Los Angeles. Mauricio Pochettino’s side raced to a 3-0 first-half lead through a Damian Bobadilla own goal and a Folarin Balogun brace before Paraguay scored a late consolation. Earlier, co-hosts Canada were held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group B opener.
Canada Secure Historic First Home World Cup Point with Draw Against Bosnia-Herzegovina
Substitute Cyle Larin struck late to earn Canada a memorable 1-1 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina, securing the nation’s first-ever point on home soil at the FIFA World Cup.
Larin, introduced only two minutes earlier, found the net in the 78th minute after being set up by Promise David, sparking jubilant celebrations among a packed home crowd at Toronto. The match was played beneath the city’s iconic CN Tower, with thousands of supporters creating a vibrant atmosphere as chants of “Ca-na-da!” echoed around the stadium. Among those in attendance were hockey superstar Connor McDavid and actor Ryan Reynolds.
The goal was only Canada’s second in World Cup history, following scoreless campaigns at the 1986 tournament in Mexico and a solitary goal during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The result gives Canada its first point in its third World Cup appearance and keeps its hopes of progressing from the group stage alive.
Canada will now travel to Vancouver for its remaining Group Stage fixtures against Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24. Bosnia-Herzegovina, meanwhile, will head west to face Switzerland in Los Angeles on June 18 before taking on Qatar in Seattle on June 24.
