Our Editorial Team brings you the exciting event when Keshav Ranjan Banerjee, Dhoni ‘s mentor, visited the school as a sports mentor. Discover how his visit inspired students with lessons on teamwork, discipline, and holistic education.
“So, are you telling me there’s a strong chance that the next Indian cricket captain, like M.S. Dhoni, could come from Epic Public School?”
“Well, that rather depends on how much elbow grease we’re willing to put in, doesn’t it?”
“True enough, but isn’t it smashing that Keshav Sir is going to be our sports mentor?”
Such was the buzz echoing through the corridors of Epic Public School on 21st January. And who could blame them? The excitement was as palpable as a nail-biter at Lord’s. You see, none other than Mr Keshav Ranjan Banerjee—the very man who played a huge role in shaping the career of M.S. Dhoni, one of India’s greatest cricket captains—was set to join the school.
One should have seen the students of the school when he arrived. They were totally gobsmacked. For a moment, you could hear a pin drop, as they stood there starstruck, taking in the presence of the legendary coach. As the session progressed Mr Banerjee mesmerised the students with his valuable words on discipline, dedication, and perseverance in achieving success in any field, not just cricket.
Attuned with the ethos of Epic Public School, Mr Banerjee advised the students about the importance of balance between academics and sports. He spoke of teamwork and sportsmanship, virtues that extend far beyond the boundaries of a cricket field, into every profession and walk of life.
The highlight of the session, of course, was when Mr Banerjee shared anecdotes about Dhoni’s journey—from his humble beginnings to becoming one of the most celebrated cricket captains in Indian history. The students were all ears, soaking up every detail, eyes wide as saucers. By the end, many of them looked ready to pick up a bat and have a go themselves.
But the pièce de résistance came when Keshav Sir took the students to the field. And oh, what a sight it was! Balls flew in the air, tips on batting and bowling were delivered with precision, and the students were quite literally jumping for joy, vying to catch his every word—and the odd cricket ball.
The cherry on top came during the director, Mr Biswajit Jha’s, address. With a twinkle in his eye, he announced, “Students, you’ll be delighted to know that Keshav Sir has agreed to officially join us as your sports mentor.” Cue thunderous applause that seemed to reverberate far beyond the school gates, leaving no doubt about the students’ excitement.
Later, as we all gathered for a good old natter over a cup of tea, our principal, Dr Sanjukta Saha, summed it up beautifully: “After all, Epic Public School isn’t just about academics. It’s about offering our students a truly holistic education.”
And there you have it—a day that will surely be etched in the memories of the students, teachers, and anyone fortunate enough to witness the start of this epic chapter in our school’s story.
