Join Sayantani Das, Class 4, Epic Public School, as she narrates a disaster in her living room. A hilarious and heartwarming adventure with her feathered family. From naughty cockatiels birds to innocent budgies, this delightful story captures the love and chaos of living with pet birds.
It was just a normal evening until I looked up, and what I saw, almost made my jaws reach my chest. Ah! Let me narrate yet another disaster that we somehow avoided that evening. I was at my study table, reading the book I borrowed from our school library. Suddenly a strange sound broke my concentration and I looked up and was left flabbergasted.
You see the view of the living room from my study is quite clear, so after recovering from the initial shock, I looked again and realised that the disaster was definitely not a dream but a hard-core reality. I ran towards the living room and found my father busy tackling the situation. He was calling Chhoti in his sweetest voice. “CHHOTI!!CHHOTI!! Come back!!”
I was speechless for a while, still trying to find ways to tackle the disaster. Then I realised I had to act I looked towards the window, it was closed thankfully. I turned my attention towards my father who was still trying desperately to handle the disaster. And finally, after a series of attempts, he finally managed to catch hold of her bringing a sigh of relief.
But the good feeling did not last for long, times were definitely not right, as I found Pilu was above my head adding to the disaster. With my pen in the right hand, I caught Pilu’s tail with my other hand! As Pilu screamed out of fear, “Murch murch!!”I lowered Pilu herself on the floor.
“OH MY GOD!!” my mother expressed, seeing the disaster as she entered the living room. “You must have left the cage door open.” She asked my father.
“No” he replied. But as we all looked that way we found the cage door was indeed open. Fortunately, Kittu and Bittu were still inside, and Milu too was in the cage. My mother rushed to close the cage door and finally, we managed to put them inside the cage and avoided the disaster.
This in fact is quite common to us, you see my father does this quite often. Like the other day, my mother went to the living room to wish them goodnight and then to her surprise she noticed that one of them was missing!!! Tension filled the house within seconds. A wild search began in the house. Finally! I spotted her and said, “She is behind the inverter!”
My father sprang into action and caught Chhoti. Such disasters occur often because of my father’s carelessness in not closing the cage door. By the time we put her inside the cage and went to bed, it was 1:00 am.
Now you must be wondering who is Chhoti, Pilu, Milu, and all the others. Well, let me introduce you to them. Pilu, Milu, Chhoti, Gogo, and Spiky are Cockatiel birds, Kittu and Bittu are budgies, and Golu and Shalu are finches.
Pilu is my favourite, do you know she flies to my mom whenever taken out from the cage and loves to play with her necklace? Milu is the brave one and Spiky. Well, he is just the opposite of her. Choti and Gogo are siblings. Choti is the naughty one who likes to spread her wings and tease Gogo by making funny sounds.
Gogo is the serious and cool one. Kittu, Bittu, Golu, and Shalu are just innocent babies. Moreover, Golu and Shalu only listen to my mother and only mom can understand them. They are like my siblings. We feed them medicine when they fall sick. Together we are the happiest family in the world.
