Bidisha Chakraborty, Assistant Teacher, reports on the celebration of World Environment Day.
World Environment Day is the day when people worldwide unite to celebrate the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability while highlighting the urgent need to address environmental challenges. Celebrated every year on June 5th it’s a step towards a clean and green environment for our future generations.
It originated in 1972 in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to mark the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The purpose was to raise global awareness and drive action to protect the environment and promote sustainable practices.
Every year, over 150 countries celebrate this day to bring fruitful changes to our society. This year, the slogan was “Our land. Our future. We are Generation Restoration.” Today we are observing that with the rise of global warming and frequent climate change, people are coming forward to make a change in society.
The students of Epic Public School are also not behind. Be it making placards or posters, educating the adults in every nook and cranny of market areas, or pledging to the people on the radio, they are everywhere. Our students took this responsibility as future citizens seriously and taught the street vendors the evils of single-use plastic and its effects while burning. They spoke about the necessity of planting more trees as the climate is turning adverse every day. They also went to the radio station and appealed to all the responsible citizens of our society to plant more trees.
The students of Epic Public School are actively participating in such occasions and coming forward to create a change in our society. They are teaching us that there’s only one earth and one life, and we should work together to save our home and our planet. They are becoming examples themselves and showing how it’s only the intention, that can change our world for the better. They are the rays of hope for the survival of the planet; they are our heroes.
