A delightful story by Resmi Banu, a Class V student at Epic Public School, where she highlights the special features and unique experiences at her school. Through a friendly conversation with her cousin from Delhi, she proudly describes Epic Public School’s innovation lab, public speaking classes, fruit break, and exciting celebrations.
During the holidays, my cousin came to visit us all the way from Delhi. She is a student at DPS Delhi. When she arrived, we had a great time talking about many things. One day, while we were chatting, we started talking about our schools.
My cousin suggested, “Why don’t you come to Delhi and join my school? We would have so much fun together!”
“That sounds nice, but I love my school here in Cooch Behar,” I replied.
“Why don’t you want to go to a big school in a big city?” she asked, a bit confused.
“Because I think Epic Public School is as good as any school in a big city,” I said.
“Really? Does your school have a big playground like ours?”
“Oh yes! We have a huge playground where we play during games period.”
“Do you have a library?”
“Yes, we have a big library where we don’t just read storybooks but also learn by reading different types of books.”
“But you would get the same facilities at DPS Delhi too,” she insisted.
“I’m sure I would, but do you have innovation classes there?”
“What are innovation classes?”
“Well, our school has an innovation lab where we learn how to create new things. At first, we thought innovation class would be boring, but thanks to our teachers, it turned out to be very interesting.”
“That sounds quite fun! What else does Epic Public School have?”
“We have a great science lab where we’ve learnt many things. I used to find science difficult, but now I really enjoy it.”
“We have a science lab too!” my cousin said proudly.
“That’s great, but do you have public speaking classes?”
“What’s that?”
“Public speaking is a very useful skill that not many people know about. Our school takes it seriously and even has classes for it. We had a public speaking contest on October 1st, and I’m happy to say I came in second place!”
“Wow, congratulations!”
“Thank you! We also had a fantastic programme just before Durga Puja. The best part about our school is that we celebrate every festival with joy. We even celebrated Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary.”
“Well, I have to admit, we don’t celebrate as much as you do.”
“Do you know our school has something called ‘fruits break’?”
“Fruits break? What’s that?”
“It’s a time during recess when we all eat fruits. Most kids don’t eat enough fruit at home, so our teachers and principal ma’am made it a rule to have a fruit break. It’s healthy, you know!”
“In our school, we usually eat chocolate, biscuits, and chips during recess.”
“But in our school, we’re only allowed to eat fruits. It’s very healthy.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
“The most unique thing at Epic Public School is ‘Epic Words.’”
“What’s Epic Words?” She asked.
“It’s our school’s web magazine. Most schools have a yearly magazine, but our web magazine lets us write stories, articles, and poems anytime we want. It’s a way for us to share our thoughts and ideas. We even have creative writing classes every Sunday.” I said with a tone of pride.
“That sounds amazing!”
“When I first joined, everyone was so welcoming. My first friends were actually our principal ma’am and director sir. Our teachers are preparing us for our future in every way. They even teach us about farming!”
“Farming at school? Why?” My cousin was confused.
“That way, we learn where our food comes from and respect farmers. Every year, we celebrate Dhan Utsav, where we grow rice in paddy fields.” I explained.
“Will you celebrate Diwali at school? Our school has big plans.” My cousin asked.
“Yes, we’re celebrating pre-Diwali on October 30th by visiting an old age home.” I answered.
“That’s a wonderful idea. I think Epic is even better than other schools!” My cousin was finally convinced.
“That’s why I’m always grateful to my parents for sending me to Epic Public School.” I proudly said.
After a pause, my cousin smiled and said, “Can I join Epic Public School?”
