Discover “Mirror of the Trapped Souls,” a spine-chilling tale of friendship and bravery by Adrika Bhattacharjee, Class IV, Epic Public School. This gripping story about a haunted mirror will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Do you believe in ghosts? Well some would say they are just stories to make us feel scared, but there are some who believe that ghosts are all around us —silent, invisible, and watching from a distance. Whether one believes in it or not, let me share a tale that might make you wonder.
This is a story about three brave friends named Neha, Rina, and Shabana. They were brave enough and they loved adventures. What is worth mentioning is the fact that all three did not believe in ghosts.
One day, they heard about a mysterious mirror locked in an old bungalow. The story went that anyone who looked into the mirror would vanish the next day. “What nonsense!” Neha exclaimed, laughing.
“People love making up scary stories,” added Shabana.
But curiosity got the better of them. Neha, the boldest of the group, said, “Let’s find that mirror! It’s just a mirror, after all. What could possibly happen?”
“How do we even go there?” Shabana asked, worried. “Our families will never let us!”
Rina, the clever one, suggested, “We’ll just tell them we’re going somewhere else for fun. I am sure they will not doubt.”
“Brilliant idea!” Neha and Shabana agreed and that is how they planned their secret adventure.
The next evening, the three friends went to the bungalow. It was quite large, at the same time it looked quite ancient and it was surrounded by overgrown bushes and trees that were tall enough. They felt a cold air as they approached the house. and the place had an creepy silence.
“Wow, look at this place!” said Neha, her voice echoing through the halls as they entered.
The wind howled through the cracked windows, and the old wooden floors creaked with every step. The girls explored the house, marvelling at the antique furniture, dusty paintings, and faded curtains. But their goal was clear—they needed to find the mysterious mirror.
After a long search, they found a locked door at the end of a hallway. “This must be it!” Rina said, pointing at the heavy padlock.
“Why is it locked?” Neha asked in frustration.
“Great! We have come all the way to see this locked door?” Rina said angrily.
They were reluctant yet they went back to their room to spend the night. But Shabana couldn’t let it go. Her curiosity was strong enough and she went to the locked door when her friends were sleeping. She had a hairpin in her hand to open the lock.
In a moment she was able to open it and she pushed the door and stepped inside. The room was dim, with almost nothing but just a large mirror standing in the centre. It was covered with a black cloth. Trembling with excitement, she pulled the cloth away, revealing a stunningly beautiful mirror that seemed to glow faintly.
But Shabana never returned.
The next morning, Neha and Rina woke up to find Shabana missing. They searched the entire house, calling out her name, but there was no sign of her.
“Where could she have gone?” Rina asked, her voice trembling.
They called the guard for help. When he arrived, he noticed the lock on the mysterious room was open. His expression turned grim. “No one should enter that room,” he said, shaking his head.
That night, Neha and Rina decided to investigate. “Rina, you stay outside and warn me if anyone comes,” Neha instructed.
As Neha entered the room, Rina stood guard nervously. Suddenly, she heard footsteps echoing down the hallway. It was the guard! Panicking, she called Neha and ran back to their room.
The guard locked the door to the room again and sat down nearby. Rina was filled with guilt and fear. Neha was trapped inside, and there was no way to get her out. She cried herself to sleep, unsure of what to do.
In her restless sleep, Rina dreamed of Neha and Shabana. At first, she was overjoyed to see them. “Where were you two? I’ve been so worried!” she exclaimed.
But her joy turned to fear when she saw tears streaming down their faces.
“Rina, listen to us,” Neha said, her voice shaking. “You need to leave this place. Run, or you’ll never survive.”
“What are you saying?” Rina asked, confused.
Neha and Shabana began explaining. “When we looked into the mirror, something terrible happened. At first, we just saw our reflections, but then a strange figure appeared. It was a man in magician’s robes, and he was laughing at us.”
The magician told them his story. “I was once a powerful but cruel magician. I loved trapping people and hurting them. One day, a good magician defeated me and trapped me in this mirror. But he couldn’t take away all my powers. Now, anyone who looks into this mirror has their soul trapped inside, while their body remains outside—lifeless and empty.”
The magician’s laughter echoed in their ears as he said, “You are my servants now, forever!”
Neha and Shabana tried to run but were pushed back into the mirror’s world. They could see their bodies outside, but they were powerless to escape.
“We can never return,” they told Rina, sobbing. “But you can. Run before it’s too late!”
Rina woke up with a start, her heart pounding. She ran to the room with the mirror, only to find a crowd gathered outside. A foul smell filled the air. When she looked inside, she froze.
On the floor lay the lifeless bodies of Neha and Shabana. Their faces were pale, their eyes hollow. Tears streamed down Rina’s face as she realised what had happened.
Her friends had sacrificed everything to warn her and save her life. Though their bodies were gone, their friendship remained. Rina knew that true friendship never dies, even in the face of death.
