Sayantani Das, a fourth-grader, shares this article discussing endangered species and the factors leading to their decline, while emphasizing the significance of conservation efforts.
The word “Endangered” means something that is close to going extinct. Now, what is an endangered species? Endangered species are animals that are close to going extinct. Amur Leopard, Black Rhinos, Indian Elephant, Hippo, African Wild dog, Blue Whale, Tiger, Dugong etc are examples of endangered species.
Animals can become endangered by both natural and man-made acts. Such as dinosaurs went extinct due to the meteor shower on Earth. Animals can become extinct from habitat loss, pollution, overhunting, fragmentation, and modification which are caused by humans.
These animals must be conserved. Conservation means to protect endangered animals. These are wildlife sanctuaries national parks etc. These are protected areas of land that provide habitat and protect them from other wild animals and hunting. We must stop deforestation and all the other things that cause harm to these animals in order to protect them.
There are many rules for the conservation of endangered species. In 1973, the ESA organised a framework to protect endangered species from habitat loss. In 1999, the MLPA took a step to clean the oceans and land from the harmful pesticides that can cause damage and even kill animals. 1966, 1963, 1969, 1976, 2013, and 2022 are some other years in which the ESA and MLPA took responsibility for protecting endangered animals.
