Read this heartwarming story by Sayantani Das, Class V, Epic Public School, about an adorable budgie named Bittu who finds a loving home and an unexpected friendship with a caring cocktail named Chhoti. A tale of love, kindness, and unlikely bonds.
“Aww! They are so cute!” I exclaimed with a huge smile in my face.
“Cuteness overload!” My sister said, while smiling, covering her cheeks and jumping.
You might be wondering who ‘They’ are? Well, you’ll get to know everything shortly as you read this story.
It was an ordinary afternoon, one that makes you feel sleepy and relaxed. I was just walking around aimlessly on the terrace enjoying the pleasant breeze of spring. This season calls for such walks.
It was all of a sudden, and to my surprise I heard a sound, soft and sweet. “What is the sound?” I wondered. The sound seemed to be quiet near. It sounded much like a baby bird! I stood silent for some time trying to hear the warbling properly.
“But, how can a baby bird be on my rooftop?” I wondered, “After all there are no nests in the mango tree of our garden nor there are any in any other trees nearby.” I said to myself.
Needless to say I began searching all around my terrace. After all the efforts, I found something that fascinated me. In between two flower pots, there it was, seating there to be discovered, it was a sweet little baby bird. I was in an instant.
“This is so cute! But how did you get here little one? Where’s your mom?” I said softly. The bird looked tired and scared. So, I and my father started looking for its parents, if not at least for an owner. I noticed it was a budgie.
But all our efforts, you know, they were just in vain, as we were unable to find the birds family, at last we decided to adopt it. I named it ‘Bittu’. Bittu is the cutest thing I have seen. Bittu is a male Budgie.
As I have shared earlier, we were having many pet birds already. But, they were all cocktail birds who had been with us for quite some time. So, my mom was worried, worried that the cocktails might hurt our newest pet Bittu. But no we were wrong, very wrong. To our surprise, Bittu was the king of the cage! And needless to say also the most disturbing. He would sit on others’ backs, their tails and even their heads! But one day, the most unexpected thing happened. I was just doing my drawing classes, sitting beside the cage as usual. Then, I heard a something, a noise, the sound went like this,” Chip! Chip! Chip!”
“Huh? What’s that?” I wondered to myself, as I approached the cage. What I saw left me flabbergasted. I saw Chhoti, one of the female cocktails and in fact our third female cocktail, was feeding Bittu! Can you beat it, Choti was actually feeding Bittu?
“Mom! Dad!” I shouted, “Come quick!” calling my parents.
Hearing me they came running. “What happened?” they asked shocked at my clamour. “Look!” I replied, my fingers pointing to the cage. They were stunned.
From that day onwards, it was a common affair to see Chhoti feeding Bittu. Moreover, no matter how much Bittu disturbed Chhoti, Chhoti would never hurt him.
No matter what happens in this world, Bittu’s childish and naughty nature will never change. Bittu will always continue to disturb nonstop for 24 hours. He will not let anyone do anything in peace, not even eating or sleeping.
At night, when the lights go out, he will still continue to chirp nonstop until my mother will give a scolding. Chhoti often likes to sing, while Bittu likes to dance. Since then, the two have been inseparable and their unconditional love will continue to flow through the air forever.
I am sharing this story with you as a reminder that if animals can exist with each other sharing mutual love, then why can’t we?
