“No I keep getting lost!”
Exclaimed Maddie, clearly frustrated .
” I’ll lose my job if I don’t get there in time!”

You must be wondering who this Maddie is, and what job is she talking about?.
Well, wait a little longer you will get to know everything in a moment!
Maddie is a very poor girl. When she was only 10, she lost her mother in a car accident.
She lives in a small house in Kolkata, with her ailing father and a younger brother who was 14, while Maddie was only 19 years old. She works as a delivery woman for Blinkit, Kolkata.
Now, let’s get back to where we started.
Maddie kept getting lost in the busy streets of Kolkata, as it was her first day. She was intensely frustrated. She feared that if she couldn’t make it out to the delivery on time, she would be fired. Few minutes later Maddie arrived at a house and rang the doorbell. The door flied open revealing the furious face of the owner.
“Hey girl! What were you doing? Sleeping? You’re 15 minutes late!”
Yelled the owner snatching away the packet.
” I-I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry for being late, it’s just that it’s my fir-“
“Enough of your lame excuses. Now get out of my sight! I’ll report this!” And with that, the house owner slammed the door shut on Maddie’s face.
” Well then, better focus on the next delivery. If there are three reports, then I’ll be suspended for a few days. And six means, I’ll be fired”.
Frowned Maddie to herself.
Suddenly her phone rang .She pulls it out of her pocket to find out it was her brother calling.
“Hello sis ! Father is in the hospital! I’m at SSKM hospital. Could you please come over? I’m scared!” Her brother Shawn exclaimed with fear.
“WAIT WHAT!? I’ll come as soon as possible.”
Saying so, Maddie hung up. But a problem struck up, how would she go? She had so many deliveries left!
Maddie, unaware of what to do, called her boss.
“Yes Maddie?”
The demure voice of her boss came from the other side.
” Hello sir, I’m very sorry for disturbing but there’s an emergency back at home, my father is admitted at SSKM. I would like to join from tomorrow ,could I?”
Maddie said as her voice trembled slightly.
” Is that so? Well then, go ahead. But remember to join tomorrow.”
Replied her boss.
“Thank you! Thank you so much! I’ll make sure to join from tomorrow”
Maddie thanked her boss and hung up. She then rushed to the hospital and burst into the room, panting from running up all those stairs. Shawn was sitting beside her father while the doctor was checking on him.
She enquired the doctor politely, “Sir, what is wrong with him?”
“He’s suffering from blockage in an artery. We need to put a stent. He’ll need surgery” replied the doctor.
“Umm, how much will it cost, approximately?”
“Well usually, nowadays to perform angioplasty, that is to put a stent, it ranges up to RS 1,00,000 to RS 5,00,000.”
The ground shook under her feet. As soon as the doctor left, Maddie crouched, her hands on her head.
“How am I supposed to arrange so much!? That’s a huge amount!”
Now with no other choice left, Maddie decided to start working for part time jobs.
In the morning, she worked at a café, basically as a cleaner. In the afternoon, she worked as a delivery woman for blinkit and at night, she served as a cook at a restaurant. Finally she reaches her home at around 11pm. She prepares dinner for herself and Shawn ,who is working for the ‘rapido’ service.
Around half a month passed like this. Maddie barely got any sleep at all. Most days, they ate white rice. Some days,she went to bed with an empty stomach.
One morning Shawn and Maddie were checking their bank balances.
“Finally!”
Exclaimed Shawn.
“We have enough!”
Completed Maddie. They went to the hospital and paid the money. The surgery was successful and despite being poor, they lived happily.
Even after facing so many difficulties, Maddie didn’t give up. Not only did she save her father with the help of her brother, but now, both Maddie and Shawn are well known doctors in their city…
