Udrita Sarkar, a student of class 4, shares the story of Mohini and her dreams of exploring a mysterious forest in Shimla, only to find herself caught in a terrifying nightmare.
Many years ago, there was a girl named Mohini. Rohini was the name of her elder sister. Rohini was a doctor, and Mohini studied in class 6. One Sunday, Rohini and Mohini decided to go on a trip to Shimla. Mohini was so excited because she had never visited Shimla before, and this was her first time going there. They reached the airport around noon, boarded the plane, and found their seats. After about an hour, the plane landed in Shimla.
Mohini was overjoyed, and her happiness was clear for everyone to see. She jumped from the last step of the plane and shouted, “Yay, Shimla!” with a joyful face. However, since it was already night, they decided not to start their tour. Instead, they went straight to their cottage, which was situated near a dense and mysterious forest. The forest was so attractive yet eerie that it piqued Mohini’s curiosity.
The cottage had two bedrooms and a dining room. Each bedroom had one bed, one almirah, a table, and an attached washroom. The dining room had a medium-sized dining table. Rohini prepared some food, and after eating, they both went to their own rooms to sleep.
Mohini, however, was too curious about the forest. She wanted to explore it, so she asked Rohini if they could go there. But Rohini warned her, “It’s a dangerous forest, Mohini. We shouldn’t go in there.” Despite the warning, Mohini was still eager to explore. She pretended to sleep, but at midnight, she quietly got up, tiptoed to the door, and opened it. She was thrilled as she turned on her flashlight and stepped into the forest.
The forest was dark and creepy, but Mohini was brave. Her curiosity pushed her to go deeper. As she walked, she began to hear strange noises—sounds of laughter mixed with crying. Still, she kept going. Suddenly, she noticed many pairs of red, glowing eyes surrounding her. Seeing this, she started to feel a little scared, but she continued to walk.
Then she heard a voice, low and menacing, saying, “Leave this place, or I will kill you.” Terrified, Mohini turned and ran as fast as she could back to the cottage. When she reached the door, she found it wouldn’t open. She tried desperately to open it, but it was stuck. She started shouting for help, and suddenly, she felt water being splashed on her face.
Mohini woke up quickly, panting for breath. She realised it had all been a dream. Rohini was standing beside her, looking concerned. “What happened, Mohini? Why were you shouting?” Rohini asked.
Relieved it was only a dream, Mohini felt much better. After that night, Mohini decided she didn’t want to visit Shimla anymore.
The next morning, Rohini said, “Pack your bag. We’ll go to Shimla tomorrow for the trip.”
But Mohini replied immediately, “No way! I’m not going to Shimla ever again!
