A gripping horror story by Naadia Rahman of Class 5, Epic Public School. When Srijana’s sister, Samantha, returns from the dead, a dark mystery unfolds involving a cursed green cookie, a haunting past, and a chilling family secret. Will Srijana escape the sinister trap, or will the curse claim another soul?
“Hey! Srijana finally my exams are over. Now I’m totally free. No more studies, no stress and all the time I have I can just play”. Samantha said stretching her hands in a relaxed gesture.
“What a wonderful news Di! So, now can we do something interesting?” Srijana asked all excited by now.
“Why not dear? But what we will do?” Let’s take the blanket and sleep.” Samantha suggested.
“Nooo… Di are you mad? Absolutely not.” Srijana objected.
“But my hands are in pain after continuously writing in exams.”
“Di are you insane? Your exams finished 3 days ago. Your stupid reasons are relatable with the concept ‘Aftershocks after an earthquake'”. Srijana mocked.
Samantha simpered and said, “I mean my hands….WHATEVER IT IS, I just want to sleep. Now, no more obstacles between me and my love story with sleep.”
“Now come on Di, you have a shop of silly reasons. Can we at least watch any K-drama?”
“Oh! That sounds like a good idea, let’s watch ‘Squid Game Season 2”.”
Srijana wasted no time and went to the kitchen to bring chips and cold drinks before her Di changed her mind. Meanwhile, Samantha lied down on the sofa with her blanket half asleep.
Srijana grabbed a packet of chips and two bottles of cold drinks and rushed back to the living room. But then as she glazed towards the glass door, she saw a strange shadow. It was as if the shadow was slamming the door again and again. Then, rushed to her sister and hugged her tight.
Samantha almost in the dream world woke up at this and asked, “Hey! Srijana what’s happening?”
Srijana narrated the entire episode to Samantha. Samantha laughed and said, “It is nothing must be your imagination.”
But Srijana was not convinced, she was shivering because of her fear. To prove her point and convince her little sister, Samantha opened the door and as expected there was nothing except a gentle breeze. Samantha was about to turn back and tell Srijana, but then, suddenly a young girl appeared and said, “D-H-A-P-P- A. Hey! I’m Sudarshana”.
“Sudarshana you! What a pleasant surprise, I am meeting you after so many days”. Saying this Samantha guided Sudarshana to the sofa.
“Can I have a glass of water?” Sudarshana asked as she sat on the sofa.
“Sure” Samantha went inside to fetch the water. Srijana by now was a bit relaxed and sat near Sudarshana.
“Would you like to try this cookie?” Sudarshana offered Srijana a dark green colour cookie.
Srijana, was reluctant, but she did not want to sound rude. So she ate the cookie eventually. Perhaps that was her greatest mistake….
After a while Samantha returned with a glass of water, but to her surprise Sudarshana was nowhere to be seen as if she had disappeared in thin air. It was then she witnessed that Srijana was sitting on the couch in a very strange manner and staring at the wall. She felt a bit concerned seeing this, she approached Srijana and asked, “Where is Sudarshana?”
Srijana did not respond. Samantha asked again but same result. This way she kept on asking Srijana, but she never answered. Samantha shook her again and asked, “Srijana, why are you so absent minded? What is wrong with you?”
Srijana suddenly woke up from her trance and pushed Samantha hard. Samantha moved away at this sudden attack and her head hit the tin box. She started bleeding on her forehead.
“MAMMA, MAMMA…” Srijana cried out for her mother.
Her mother was cooking in the kitchen when she heard her daughter. She rushed to the living room and found Sirjana was crying. She asked, “What happened Srijana?”
As Srijana narrated the entire incident, her mother consoled her and said “It was just a nightmare, everything is okay beta, Mamma is here with you” don’t worry.”
“But Mamma Samantha was here just sometime back, where is she now?”
“Well, she died 10 years.” Her mother informed, “It was that dreadful day when both Samantha and Sudarshana died in a road accident.” Saying this her mother showed her a picture in the wall where both Sudarshana and Samantha were standing with flowers in her hand.
Srijana was totally startled and was curious to know more about the incident. The next day she went to Sudarshana’s father Dr Nirmay and narrated the incident.
“I see, so the curse continues,” Dr Nirmay spoke in a tone mixed with sadness and concern.
“What curse?” Srijana asked curiously.
“Tell me Srijana, did she offer you a green cookie?”
“Yes as a matter of fact she did, why uncle?”
“The dark green cookie is a drug mixed cookie that is very harmful for human consumption. The drug there is used in things like- Mortein and Phenyl.” Dr Nirmay paused, and after a while he continued, “You see Sudarshana was addicted to that cookie. She got addicted because of Maddy her colleague. It was 23rd of June when she consumed 5 packets of those cookies and went out for a long drive with Samantha. That day they met with a dreadful accident and died.”
Srijana was shocked to hear this. Dr Nirmay continued. “Actually my great grandmother gave her all the generations a spiritual book, in that it was written that a dead family member who haunts her family members in their dreams wants to live again by taking their soul in hell and take their own soul to the victim’s body”.
Srijana returned home and narrated the entire episode to her parents. Then, the next day Srijana’s family consulted a priest and rituals were performed, and Srijana was saved at right time. Srijana realised her Didi was not evil but wanted to live another happy life with her family.
