Sayanika Prasad, a second-grade student, recounts the classic tale of “The Three Little Pigs,” detailing their efforts to build houses of straw, sticks, and stones, each challenged by a formidable wolf.
Once upon a time, there lived three pigs with their mother. They were always happy and used to play with each other while their mother went out to look for food.
One day, when she returned home, she called the piglets and said, “Listen, my children, it is time you go out and see the world. You have to find your own life, so tomorrow morning, as dawn breaks, you all will go out and build your own house and start living separately.”
“But Mama, why can’t we stay with you?” The piglets cried out.
“No, my dear, that is the law of the jungle; you cannot stay with me.” She replied.
They went out in the morning, sad yet determined to follow their mother’s instructions. As they reached the other side of the jungle, they decided to build their own homes.
The first one found some straw readily available and constructed a beautiful house out of it. He built it in no time and without any hard work at all.
The second pig, on the other hand, decided to build his house with sticks. He went a bit far to fetch the sticks and took more time than the first pig. But it was not difficult at all, as sticks were available just nearby.
The third pig, on the other hand, decided to build his house with stones. So he went beyond the jungles to the hills to fetch the stones. Slowly, one by one, he brought down the stones from the hills. The other pigs were laughing at him, as he was struggling so much to build his house. Finally, after much hard work and effort, he completed the construction of his house.
One fine day, when all of them were sleeping, a large and dangerous wolf attacked their houses. The first house made with straw was blown away by his huffing and puffing. The second house, made with sticks, faced the same fate.
However, as he approached the third house made of stone, the little pig quickly snuggled up in his house. The wolf huffed and puffed, but could do nothing to the strong stone structure. He tried again, but all his efforts were in vain. After a while of struggle, the huge, terrible wolf was out of breath. He realised his efforts were futile and decided to leave the place defeated.
