Aarushi Sinha, a fourth-grade student, recounts a touching story where a wise father guides his two daughters to understand the profound essence of love and relationships. Using a thoughtful exercise, he helps them recognize their deep affection for their husbands that transcends their professional identities.
In a land far away there lived a wise father. He had two daughters. The elder daughter was married to a gardener and the younger daughter was married to a potter. After a few years, the father invited the two sisters to come to his house. As they arrived he welcomed them and asked them to sit down. He bought some coffee and asked the elder daughter “Why did you marry a gardener?”
She replied, “As I love plants, and watching him taking care of the garden makes me feel blissful.”
The wise father then asked his younger daughter “And why did you marry a potter?”
The young girl blushed and said, “I love the way he crafts the mud items, and this gives me great satisfaction.”
The wise father after a pause said, “So you love their profession but do you love them?”
This question left the two sisters confused. Realizing this the father said, “Okay, let me help you answer that, you ask your respective husbands to go to a far-off land with some excuse. Once they are gone. See if you miss them and come back to me with your answers.”
As advised the elder daughter asked her husband to go to Gulmarg in Kashmir and fetch the most beautiful orchid from there. The younger daughter too, asked her husband to go to and fetch the black clay pottery from Nizamabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Days passed into months, and both the sisters realised that they started to miss their husbands. Finally one day they came back to their father and appraised him of their feelings. The father was happy to know that he had been able to make his daughters understand the true meaning of a relationship.
After many months both the husbands returned and since then they lived happily ever after.
